DARIEN JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE

DJFL OFFSEASON TRAINING

Our goal is to provide high-quality offseason opportunities that develop football fundamentals while placing a strong emphasis on speed, strength, agility, and overall athleticism. As a program, we need to become stronger and faster—not only to compete more effectively within the FCFL, but also to better prepare our athletes for success at the next level at DHS. For our younger groups, the emphasis will be on developing speed, agility, and movement fundamentals, with less focus on strength training. Just as important, we want this program to be fun and to continue building camaraderie across grades.

5th, 6th & 7th Grade Program Framework

• Speed & Movement Training (2-3 sessions per week)
Programming will be designed by certified strength, speed, and physical therapy professionals John Carlozzi and Jason Gromelski. Sessions will be led by John, Jason, and other experienced trainers from the community, with support from DHS and DJFL coaches where appropriate.

• Football Skill Development Sessions
We plan to offer at least one position-specific skill session each week. These may include quarterback training, blocking and tackling, linemen technique, running back and receiver work, defensive back training, and more.

• Additional Activities
Throughout the offseason, we’ll work to incorporate team-building and fun events such as pizza parties, guest speakers, special-guest training sessions, alternative workouts, and community service opportunities.

Registration & Fees

All athletes must first register for Speed • Strength • Skill through the DJFL website.

Registration Fee: $100 per athlete
This fee covers a training jersey and helps offset equipment, supplies, and overall program support. Please note that the training jersey/shirt is the same style as the previously issued 7v7 shirts. These run fitted, so we recommend sizing up compared to a traditional Nike or Under Armour fit.

Session Fees:
Speed & Strength sessions: $25 per session

Skill session pricing: TBD

Based on feedback from last year, we are increasing the number of sessions offered and moving to per-session pricing to encourage flexibility and greater participation. We understand families have busy schedules, and this structure allows athletes to attend when they are available without penalty.

Speed & Strength sessions will initially be capped at 35 athletes per session to maintain workout quality. If sessions fill quickly, please be patient—we will work to add additional sessions based on demand.

Program Duration & Schedule

The program will run from late January / early February through the end of the school year.

Our target schedule includes:
• 2–3 Speed & Strength sessions per week (1–2 weekdays and 1 weekend)
• At least one weekly skill session
• Additional fun events and special training opportunities

Sample Speed & Strength Schedule:
• Tuesday: 6:15 PM – 7:30 PM
• Thursday: 6:15 PM – 7:30 PM
• Sunday: 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM

Please note: Program registration is required in order to receive session sign-up emails.

3rd & 4th Grade Program Framework

• Speed & Movement Training (1 session per week - Sundays, likely at 1:30pm)
Programming will be designed by certified strength, speed, and physical therapy professionals John Carlozzi and Jason Gromelski. Sessions will be led by John, Jason, and other experienced trainers from the community, with support from DHS and DJFL coaches where appropriate.

• Football Skill Development Sessions
Once we can get out on the fields, we would like to offer skill sessions on roughly a weekly basis. This keeps the athletes engaged in the fundamentals of footballs.

Registration Fee: $75 per athlete
This fee covers a training jersey and helps offset equipment, supplies, and overall program support. Please note that the training jersey/shirt is the same style as the previously issued 7v7 shirts. These run fitted, so we recommend sizing up compared to a traditional Nike or Under Armour fit.

Session Fees:
Speed & Strength sessions: $20 per session
Skill session pricing: TBD

Program Duration & Schedule

The program will run from late February/early March through the end of the school year.

Athletes who register for the program will receive a session sign-up email closer to our first session date, which will include links for session registration and payment.

SESSION LOCATION

Many Speed & Strength sessions will be held at Nola Physical Therapy + Performance on Post Road in Darien. We are extremely grateful to Jason Gromelski and Nola for providing access to their facility at no cost to the DJFL.

Additional facilities may be used as needed. As the weather improves, we plan to host outdoor skill sessions on DHS or town fields whenever possible.
