After an exciting first season, the Darien Junior Football League is thrilled to be building Girls Flag Football — an exciting, fast-paced, non-contact football program designed specifically for girls in grades 3–8!
What is Girls Flag Football?
This gives girls the opportunity to learn and play football in a fun, safe, and team-oriented environment. The 5v5 format ensures everyone is involved in the action, with an emphasis on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Program Structure:
- Open to girls in three divisions: Grades 3/4, Grades 5/6, and Grades 7/8
- Teams will compete against other local towns, with the goal of playing 6–8 games throughout the season.
- Teams will have 1 practice per week, focusing on football fundamentals, teamwork, and confidence-building in a positive and supportive atmosphere.
- Season will run April-June with games on Saturday or Sunday
How the Game is Played:
- 5v5 format on a shortened field for continuous action and lots of scoring opportunities.
- Non-contact — players pull flags instead of tackling.
- Players will learn offensive and defensive positions, passing routes, flag-pulling technique, and game strategy.
- Games consist of two 20-minute halves with running clocks, making for fast, exciting play.
